Frequently Asked Questions
How long will this take?
-This will take at most 6 hours to complete. You do not need to spend your entire summer working on this, but I thought it might help to give you the extra time so that you can feel confident entering my classroom in the fall.
What if it takes more than 6 hours?
-If you are spending more than 6 hours total on all of the modules, talk to me. You can email me, but I may not respond until the beginning of August. Don't overwhelm yourself. You can also talk to me during the first week of school and we can figure out a plan together.
What if I don't get it done before school starts?
-It isn't due until the week after school starts, so you will have time to ask questions and work on any technical issues.
Is this graded?
-Yes, there are homework points awarded for completing this. When you create an account with Khan Academy and join my class I am able to see how much time you've spent on each module and what you've done. Remember, if you get stuck, I'm here to help. There are hundreds of modules you can do through Khan Academy, but I am asking you to only work through the 7 listed above.
How do I create an account through Khan Academy?
-When you get to the website, click "Sign in/Sign up" located in the top right corner. Create your account using your school isd911 account.
What if I already know how to do something in the modules? Do I have to watch the videos and do the practice?
-If you feel confident in a skill, you may skip the videos and go straight to the practice. If you are struggling, I would recommend returning to the videos and then trying the practice again. In any case, you need to at least do the practice.
I'm feeling overwhelmed - maybe I'm in the wrong class...
-It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed and nervous - especially when you're changing schools. Take a deep breath and remember that you're in this class for a reason. Believe in yourself and give yourself some credit. If you still feel overwhelmed after the first week you can always talk with me and we can work out a plan.
